I love looking at artist's self portraits. So here is one I did today. Try something fun! It's from a picture my uncle took; he was a great photographer and was always documenting our family events. I put the photo in Photoshop Elements and manipulated it and then printed it on fabric and pieced, appliqued and quilted it! Nice change of pace.

All thoughts on trees this last few weeks. They have made a beautiful display. All the leaves are just about gone now... This is about the last bright spot left today from our yard... dark trunks with lemon colored foliage backlit by the fading sunlight. My quilt idea is based on the super thick foliage when it first turns bright colors... more like these from a couple of weeks ago, blurry but with a nice effect. Ok this is the first photo I have taken... been piecing and building up the background for several days. Further along today before I got called out to help install the trailer hitch bar on our new car. Artus interruptus.
I submit lists of the birds that I observe to Cornell Laboratories. They collect bird observations from birders all over the world, and this helps them compile the most accurate and amazing statistics because there are so many eyes watching and reporting back to this central agency. This watch force has given lots of information for tracking bird migration, populations, losses and expansions. They have a built-in alert in their computer program if they think you are reporting too many of one species for the time of year and place, etc. Then they call you out for it and demand an explanation.
I have been called out earlier this month about the number of egrets around Douglas Lake this month and I did not have photographs to support my count. But ah ha, what fun, this weekend I got the evidence to go with my report! And then my sister sold a beautiful Batik Egret she did. It's an Egret weekend. My official count was 37 egrets on Saturday at the lake, but there were twice that number. My yard has the most beautiful leaves this year. I just can't seem to take enough pictures! They are all inspiring to art ventures. I am always getting inspired, need to get to work. Well I am working on a tree quilt right now, so guess it is working!
