Are you inspired by pictures? particularly old pictures? Well everything inspires me, it is the perspiration involved in getting going and getting something done with all this inspiration that escapes me sometimes. Here are some beautiful pictures from years past that I hope will inspire some new works in 2022. For architectural inspiration, Salem College where I studied Piano. The Arboretum in Biltmore House. The twins desert home! In Cade's Cove... Old Salem... Morristown TN with their turn of the century elevated shopping mall! and non-architectural, although these spruce are pretty darned architectural and pretty high altitude in the Smokies. Love the shadows of clouds all day, so awesome! Wave after wave of mountains... Mountain flowers of fall Miles of beach at Padre Island
SAQA members of South Florida had our monthly meeting this week and we had a great time. There is so much talent and so much to share! I wish I could have gotten some better pictures of all the great works. We learned a lot about local venues where we could show our art and had a wonderful luncheon!
As a lover and grower of mushrooms, I am fascinated by the rich history of mushrooms in France and particularly Paris. In Paris, the mushrooms are grown underground, and at one time there were cultivated in the catacombs. Now many mushrooms are grown in deserted quarries, carefully and lovingly tended by humans. French cooks love them and have mastered using the simplest ingredients to highlight the perfect delicacy and flavor of these delightful fungi. Some chefs graciously share their recipes, others record them in code or do not record them at all. Besides illustrating several mushroom species, this quilt features quilting that represents the rows of growing mushrooms as they are born from the earth and secretive notes about mushroom cooking. And of course, this is all set off on the French flag, the Tricolore.
Working on a quilt about the cuisine of France! I decided to work with their love of mushrooms, learning lots of French words and studying lots of mushrooms. Should be finished with it within the week. Considering different arrangements of the mushrooms...
From the grand-daughter inspiration, wound up with a lot of art, the "mini-me's" as I worked on her portrait. Then it was really hard for me to figure out how to downsize it to print on fabric, but finally got it. I love it!
Finally inspired by grand-daughter to make an art quilt! Roger Fang Fang and I try to share a love seat lounge that was intended for two adult humans, but he is a little concerned that I am taking more than my share of the space. A view of the artist's seat without her in it... artist at work... Roger Fang Fang: could you please tone that pencil scratching down? I am interested in two things, as you know, eating and sleeping... and maybe playing with this ball but YOU cannot have it.
Our Quilts of Valor group meets once a month here in Newport. I finished this top to turn in this month. I had hoped to make a quilt entirely of the little squares.... but realized I would be really old and gray by the time I ever finished it so I changed my plan! Someone else will quilt it with a long arm and we will present it to a local veteran.
