Celebrating Sustainable Practices and Products with Hoffman FabricsBy: fabric.com By: Hoffman Fabrics
Hoffman Fabrics is in its 96th year as a family owned and run business. The 4th generation of the Hoffman Family is pushing forward with the family’s innovative spirit that puts quality and responsibility at the forefront of its brand.
The 4th generation tells us that their grandfather, Walter Hoffman and great uncle, Philip Hoffman discovered the art of Bali Batiks in the early 70’s on their surf adventures to the island. Both men were pioneers in the surfing world and played a large roll in the commercialization of the surfing culture through their talents and textiles. The joy that the ocean brought them was something that they strived to preserve when they decided to add hand-dyed Bali Batiks into their vast line of textiles.
With surfing and water being a focus, the Hoffman family had an idea that led to the installation of a water reclamation facility at their privately owned Hoffman Bali Batik factory over 20 years ago. Today, this filtration system circulates all of the dye water that is used in the process of creating the Hoffman Bali Batik. Dye water is filtered several times until it reaches its original pH level and is deemed safe to disperse back into the environment.
