Its that time again, time to make a little art quilt for SAQA and send it to the benefit auction to help raise money to support our guild. This is my third year. I really enjoy doing it so here is an update on the projects so far.
I am always going on about how much I like works with words in them and people in them.... So, I thought I needed to step up to the plate here. I grew up loving comics also. So here we are in the 1930's with these two fashionistas on the beach at Newport where you would think they might be watching the yacht racing, talking of fashion as one is... But oh boy, the other gal is having none of it because she didn't come to the beach to talk about clothes, she came to find out why her "friend" was with her man Tony last night when he was supposedly "out with the boys." The piece includes fabric I hand painted, beading, painting, reverse applique, lace from a sweater and lots of thread painting. One of my favorite parts is the water, its a bunch of whales swimming both right side and upside down so there is no correct orientation. I got it in Lakeland, FL and there are 3 different colorways so you will be seeing more of it in future work. Its by Janet Clare called "Hearty Good Wishes" for moda fabrics. That whale on the far right is definitely giving fashion girl the eye.
I have always been an artist and with art quilts I have found a way to combine my two loves of painting and textiles.
