I chose her quilt Pink Rose or American Beauty, which I absolutely love just as it is....
I made this quilt for a rather difficult challenge based on the quilts of Marie Webster. There is a large collection of them at the Indianapolis Museum. She was an important Arts and Crafts designer around the turn of the last century and her quilts reflect that style. It was our task to take a quilt and re-interpret it as it might be done today. Who knows? I thought she would take advantage of our looser and freer interpretations of quilting and embrace them. So..... I chose her quilt Pink Rose or American Beauty, which I absolutely love just as it is.... But then to make it more of a today quilt I really struggled because I kept thinking about how perfect it was already. So I just started thinking about the concept of roses and decided to abstract it. The juror was Niloo Paydar and it is a real honor to have a quilt chosen by her. She is the curator of textile and fashion arts at the Indianapolis Museum of Art where she has worked since 1986.

Well, I think Marie should be well pleased with your rendition or, modernization of her rose concept! Her era of quilting would of not allowed the freedoms you enjoy today; adding textures, the feel of the day, maybe even a hint of the aroma of the rose! Stunning.
