I know you are probably thinking, huh? But to go back to my roots and make some piece of wearable, in this case a little purse... it can be fun and inspiring! So hope it works tomorrow and I am back on track!

My niece retired from the Army and sent me 38 pounds of uniforms to choose through and make her a quilt! That's the instructions. It was a real struggle to think of a way to use them of interest but by adding some red, white and blue I think I achieved it. And it became even somewhat arty with the addition of the patches.
Just finished up with my entries for Fifth Avenue Art Gallery in Melbourne, FL. This is going to be a great show called Textile Trends. The first entry is "Sunlit Fish" Techniques include piecing, darning, hand stitch, applique, machine quilting and dimensional piecing This fiber work depicts the excitement of ocean fish when the sun is shining through the beautiful blue waters. The second entry is "Rising to Meet the Moon." Techniques include piecing, darning, hand stitch, applique, machine quilting and dimensional piecing This fiber work depicts the mysterious pull the moon has on all life on earth, and fish are no exception. They love to play in the moon light. The third entry is "Threatened."
Techniques include piecing, hand stitch, applique, machine quilting, beading, couching, dimensional reality and painted fabric. This fiber work displays just a few of the hazards that a baby sea turtle faces on its road to maturity. Other creatures such as birds and sharks love to eat them, garbage ensnares them, rogue and current fishing nets trap and drown them to name just a few of these things. This is an entry for the Brush Gallery's show "Trees." I love these old staubs left from big trees that hang over the valleys and overlook the distant blue mountains and so do the ravens. These guys meet here every day to commune and discuss what is going on in their neighborhood.
June 6-9 was this year's Quiltfest and it was a super success. I loved looking at the very inspiring quilts and taking Patti Carey's class Panel Pizzazz. I got to participate in walking the floor and answering visitor questions as well as selling raffle tickets for our super neat raffles. Here are just a few of my favorite quilts.
I visited the wetlands area at St. Augustine's alligator Park and saw many beautiful nesting water birds. I think these birds will be a great inspiration for some art!
The flowers here are so beautiful. I love to store pictures on my blog so I can always find them again! Enjoy!
This piece is called Song of the Meadowlark. It is 12 x 12 inches and I created this by printing on fabric with a gel plate. There is piecing and beading and thread painting. It will be available in the auction that is sponsored by SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) to raise money to fund art shows and traveling quilt shows.
It tells the story of a beautiful meadow I walk beside that always has meadowlarks calling and flowers blooming and happy little bees, critters and cows! FFFF Exhibit is open at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum! It will be traveling for the next few years as it goes from museum to museum and gallery to gallery. I am proud to have a piece in that show, my Lords of the Forest art quilt.
